Acetone should have washed it off. That is if you put acetone on a rag and try to rub it off. BTW Take the whole thing out into the fresh air before you start doing this and where a rubber glove, as acetone is one of those chemicals that will penetrate the skin and go into the bloodstream and wreck your liver.(which you need as much as a heart) and they don't transplant livers. Putting resin on top and hope? is kind of like you winning the big lottery.. Clear resin should be put on a solid uniform surface otherwise expect white patches which I am certain you do not want. In the early days when I fiberglassed my car using resin (in the winter months) sure there was times when the fiberglass was still sticky(because it just did not get hot enough)I had a artist pure bristle paint brush (nylon or polyester will melt in acetone) and I poured some of the hardener onto the brush and painted it onto the sticky soft spots and applied some heat from the pistol hair dryer. It worked with snow on the ground. I was fixing a VW rear fenders, so you know it is sheet metal.. Far sight harder than before when I did not have enough hardener. or mix it well enough.. Never used acetone. I did not know that was the solvent for this at the time. Also did the same thing to plastic body filler(which is the same stuff mixed with a flour type stuff to make a paste.
