Your house should have a regulator in the south where i live it is a law. Did you get a reason as to why you were fired? Are the two issues related? Does he blame you for the charge, or is it just a coincidence in timing? It may be that since he has been charged with a crime, he won't need your services if he goes to jail, so he terminated you. Maybe he is closinig down his business in case an upcoming divorce or civil suit. Maybe your performance was lacking. However it is not illegal to fire someone (with certain exceptions). You should look up the laws specific to 'Employment at Will for the official Department of Labor policy and any exceptions to that policy.
