When the RPMs become excessively high it's time to switch to the next gear up . When decelerating , as the RPM become too low it's time to shift down

That's funny, then why can you change all four axle shafts in any all wheel drive car ever made. It's true! Call a parts store, or a subaru dealer, they will tell you the same.
Cars have two axles. some larger trucks, beyond your normal pick-up, have more than that.
