ok so i want to knit a blanket, but im not sure what size needles and how much yarn i will need.and im just curious.how old were you when you learned to knit? i was 9
How about a painter's drop cloth, or construction plastic sold by the yard?

I would recommend finding a pattern if you've never made on beforeYou can go to a craft store and find either a single pattern, or look at the craft magazines and find a knitting one that will have a blanket plus other seasonal ideas (cheaper than a book) As far as materials go, you'll need large needles (thick), about three to four types of yarn (you use all four to cast a stitch, etc, to make it thick and warm)I find the easiest way to do it is in patches, then stitching them together, so find a pattern that instructs soAlso, with this way, you can make alternating patterns if you wishGood luck!
