I am trying to use less plastics. I have been reading how bad plastic is for you and I want to know what ways you have gotten away from plastics in your life.
i do no longer think of that i take advantage of plastic much less, yet I do re-use it extra. I nonetheless use plastic water bottles, yet i take advantage of a similar bottles lower back and lower back. i think of it fairly is extra beneficial than employing a tumbler bottle because of the toughness. If I drop the plastic bottle, no great deal. Drop a tumbler one and it would wreck, depart shattered glass in the back of, and that i might ought to replace it (employing up components). BTW, it would not help the reason to apply deceptive terminology. Calling 'trash-weighted down water approximately two times the dimensions of Texas' an island isn't precise. 'Island' implys a fantastic mass that ought to be stood on, photographed from orbit, and positioned on Google Earth. it fairly is an area of water the dimensions of Texas that has excessive quantities of plastics suspended in it. it somewhat isn't any longer a fantastic mass of plastic the dimensions of Texas. asserting so, by employing the term 'island', does make you sound like a crackpot.
Buy fresh fruit and veg instead of produce that's shrink-wrapped (has a clear plastic film around it). You can also try getting jam and other things in glass jars and bottles instead of the plastic alternatives - these are easier to recycle because all you have to do is chuck them in a bottle bank when they're empty (wash them and take the lids off them first, though!). You can also save a lot of plastic by taking canvas bags or those 'bags for life' you see in supermarkets when you go food shopping - it saves a lot in plastic bags, and some stores give you store card points if you reduce the amount of bags you use at the till. The problem with plastic isn't really the amount you use, it's how you dispose of it. Try finding a plastics bin, or see if your council collects it anywhere. They usually have guides on how to recycle it, and if not them then it'll be on directgov.uk or something (or the US alternative if you're American). Hope this helps! :)
I have bought glass jars to put leftovers in instead of using Tupperware or Rubbermaid stuff. I also bought glass jars to store my rice, flour, sugar, pastas and other foods in. I try to buy products that are not in plastic to begin with. I can get jelly in glass jars, but not peanut butter, darn it. I will also wash these glass jars and use for food storage. I don't buy meat in plastic containers anymore. I am buying milk in cardboard packages now too. I got rid of our plastic cups and glasses and only use glass glasses. I don't use plastic plates either. I found an initial cost going and buying glass items, but once you have them they will last a lot longer than plastic and I think it is much healthier for us. Good luck with your venture. The less plastic in this world the better.
