Is it safe to go on a road trip with a messed up cv axle joint?
no again no by the way NO you could end up on the side of the road with a rooted dive if you haven't just gone through an accident. they will last a while but a road trip no. fix it now in a servo account if you can. If you don't have an account ask your local if you can start one with a $20 limit then slowly build it up with reliability.
NO it is not safe. In fact by the time you hear that clicking ? its past time to fix it. when that axle finally comes apart before you fix it it will do about 2 thousand dollars worth of damage to your car. there are two axles one on each side, the long one goes first, but the short one is not far behind. Its best to do both at the same time, but you may get a month or two (maybe not) so plan on some repairs, if you plan to sell the car, in a year or so, the rebuilt axles will do fine, If you plan on keeping it then I would buy brand new axles, they will be better quality and last longer, but also cost more. best of luck, get it fixed sooner not later.
Depends how bad the CV joint is. I had one that was wearing out but still passed its MOT. Is the clicking when you turn corners, if so don't worry about it. Or just get it changed.
