Question:

Is the APS 350Z Dual 3.0 High Output Cat Back Exhaust System too big for a stock Z?

I was originally look at the 2.5 exhaust system APS made, but then I came across this one.

Answer:

I once made a huge paper mache sun using a punching ball balloon, ya know the ones with the rubber band attached that you punch. Just blow it up, put the strips over it and pop the balloon once it dries. Then cut in half if you only want it coming out of the wall. The bigger the balloon the bigger the hill. Good luck :)
Dual 3.0 exhausts will handle several hundred cubic inches of motor; I have dual 3 on my 427 Mustang. Sounds very big, but, also, can't see any problem. If the $$$$ is the same, or there's a good used one available, it won't hurt anything to go too big.
Some do and some don't. It depends on what and whom you are buying the system from. How many miles are on this car? Cats are warrantied for 8 years / 80,000 miles. By the way, you can get that cat replaced a LOT cheaper. I can buy that cat for about $350 through NAPA. Labor to replace it is around an hour. The dealership is screwing you (no surprise there). Find a nice independent shop you can trust and start taking your car there. And speaking of dealerships screwing you.it is a little unusual for your cat to be bad at this point unless you failed to perform your regular scheduled maintenance (plugs, wires, etc.). How do you know it's bad? Are you taking their word for it? I wouldn't. It was diagnosed by a flat-rate mechanic who was probably short on his paycheck and working for a dealership. All dealerships are hurting right now because of the economy and are looking to make up their shortfalls through their service department. I had three people come to my shop last week after visiting their respective local dealerships. All three had completely bogus estimates for work that was completely made up. None of the things the dealerships said were bad were in fact bad. Every single on of them were incidents of the dealerships trying to steal money from hard working decent people.
Don't listen to Rick. You can't just throw on bigger is better parts. Your car will suffer if you do this. A stock Z, along with every other car, needs back pressure. Putting a larger exhaust makes less restrictive flow. The larger the exhaust that you put on, the less back pressure. From a practical standpoint, this means that the larger the exhaust, the better your car will perform when you are flooring it. However, you are going to destroy your low-end and mid-range powerband for this. Getting a different exhaust isn't freeing up power that the engineers at the factory locked, it is just shifting the powerband around. Go too large, and the car will not be any fun to drive around town, and honestly you will barely increase your top-end power.
In art class we did a project with paper mache. Basically we got a piece if cardboard, cut into the shape we wanted, and then we balled up pieces of newspaper taped them to the cardbord so that the whole thing was covered. Then after that we nade our mix which consisted of simply flour water, and we dipped strips of newspaper in the mix covered the object. You wanna do 5 layers in all so do like 2 layers a day. ( this way it has time to dry harden properly) but um yea our projects turned out pretty awesomely by using this method. Hoped i helped (:
