there's not a lot of bands that are true satanists. King Diamond is a member of the church of satan. The guys from Emperor, Mayhem, Gorgoroth etc. were notorius for their beliefs also, and were involved in the church burnings in Norway (along with a few murders) A lot of the newer big metal bands coming out, like As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, etc, are Christian bands. Personally, i could give two craps on what their beliefs are. As long as their music is good and they're not too preachy. I think that's a better way to decide if music is good and not by their beliefs. Just my .02
I've watched a documentary about this! (it's called Metal: A headbanger's journey if you want to check it out. It's about Heavy Metal and it's really interesting). The American and British Metal bands aren't satanic. Like a guy said before me, some of them are even religious! It's mostly just for the show. Satanic sells *lol*. However, some of the Norwegian bands (Norway is like the land of death metal) ARE satanic. Y'know, the kind that burns churches and stuff. That's NOT just for the show.
