You can do what you want then have them recharged. But check to see what new ones cost first. It could be some dirt or dust etc. in the burner area. If you CO detector is in good working order you may just want to reduce the setting a little and have them look at it anyway. If you have to tell them you are worried and insist. Without looking at it can't tell much. If it's just a year old and it has never run out of water etc. it should be ok. I'd have them flush it and clean the burner area in any case. If you can see the flame and it is blue you are probably ok on the CO problem. You got me at this point.
