I have a sony via laptop charger that just went out , the problem is that my ac charger say 19.5volts to 3.5a. The Only ones i can located are 19.5volts to 4,7 amps. Will i hurt by using the one with the bigger amp ?
Great question. The simple answer is no. When it comes down to it, the requirements of using another charger with your laptop is as follows: The voltage must be within 5% range of the original. The amperage must be equal to or greater than the original. The connector tip must match the original. You have the first two, its just the last one you need to check. Does the plug fit your laptop nicely? Is it not loose or too tight? Though, I find it hard to believe you can't find another 3.5a charger. They are as common as the 4.7a. Try looking a bit more online because you always should try to get the exact charger you need. Compatibility is something you can work with if need be. For a new charger, Topmic is by far the best website I have come across in terms of having good products with amazing service. I've purchased from them before and they are true to their word. Free shipping with free lifetime warranty. Meaning, if the charger you purchased from them ever stops working, they would replace it for free, forever. So when the charger I got from them about a year ago decided to just stop working, they sent me a new one for free. Its definitely a great way one can save money in the long run and its a great investment as well. I'm pretty sure they have your charger. Just google Topmic and when you get to their site, enter in the charger name or laptop model. Good luck!
very possibly yes. check the specs on Sony's site for a replacement laptop charger. 19.5 V * 3.5 A 68.25 W 19.5 V * 4.7A 91.65 W ( nearly 50% more power, 50% more current) Get the correct charger - or at least get one that Sony says will fit your laptop. Else - be prepared to replace the motherboard, too.
