Question:

Laptop charger problem?

I own a Toshiba Satellite A215, and when i plug in my laptop charger the light flashes a bluish color on the power button and a flashing orange light on the charger indicator, but it says it is plugged in. Also it chargers when my laptop is off. Any advice on how to get the charger to work when my laptop is on?

Answer:

This sounds like the power adapter is either the wrong one (not enough wattage) or it is failing and needs to be replaced. end of line
try to look at your power settings if unable then think about getting another power charger. sorry.
I have had that exact problem. The problem is the power jack that is connected to you laptop motherboard. In order to repair this you will need to buy a power jack from the manufacturer, tear apart the laptop and solder the new jack in place (obviously you would take the old jack out), or send it into the manufacturer for them to repair. You can do a temporary fix and take apart the computer and use a small screwdriver and bend the prongs inward to tighten the connection.
When you turn off the laptop the charger won't charge the battery even when you have the laptop plugged in. You have to have the laptop on for it to be charged and it will be charging as you use it. One thing to remember about the Toshiba batteries is that they don't have much battery life so some people take the battery out so it will last longer and not have to be replaced as often were it to be charged too much and not work well. Some other laptops have batteries that last more than 8 hours and the next time I buy a laptop I will buy one with long battery life and with all the good features. I have a Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 and it works well and since I don't use the batteries much I took them out and will use charge them before I need to use them. I am not sure I would buy a Toshiba laptop again as Dell has very good laptops at reasonable prices.
