Question:

max air pressure in bike tire?

i recently purchased slime heavy duty bike tires(26 inch). I filled them to 65 psi. I have a 26 inch mtn bike. 24 hours after filling them up i had a blow out. What i want to know is what is the max tire pressure in these heavy duty tires? The say they are 5 times thicker than a normal tire, but they dont say anything about tire pressure. Thanks for your help.

Answer:

Most tires have the maximum recommended pressure printed somewhere on the sidewall. Often it's raised rubber lettering which may be tough to see. Overfilling tires is a good way to blow them off the rim, especially if you don't have the bead perfectly seated on the rim. I've never seen Slime tires. I've only seen tubes, sealants and liners from them. Did you mean tubes? They definitely make heavy duty tubes. However, the maximum air pressure is a limit of the tire, not the tube.
I'm a bike tech at ***** sporting goods, and from what i understand there is always a limit or a range on the side of the tire somewhere and u should fill your tires up at an inbetween number, usually the range on most 26 tires is 40-60 so u should be ok with 50psi, also I dont have much experience with slime tubes or tires but i do sell them at *****, and I think u should probably stay away from them
max pressure is on the tire or the box they came in not the tube that does sound high for mtb tires but if you a blow out it could also have been from improper tire installation was it the tire or the tube? actually had to be the tube, the tire almost never 'blows out' if you don;t seat the bead right, the tube can sneak out and it makes a bubble and pops wle
