Question:

Muffler or whole exhaust system?

I have a 2008 civic and have heard that a muffler or exhaust system can boost power and efficiency.I want to install one of these on my car but don‘t want that ****** ricer noise. Would getting a quiet flow muffler do anything or do I need to get a whole new system

Answer:

I've a Jeep Liberty with the 3.7L engine and it has a Flowmaster super 44 on it. Sounds like a V8 on begin up and idle, as well as in low RPMs. But when you get into larger RPMs it starts to sound kind of ricey. However the sound is one hundred times as agressive as it used to be inventory. Valued at the cash imo. I would look at videos on YouTube of Challengers with exhaust before so which you can understand what you would like.
The engineneer put the best exhaust system on the car already. If you modify it, there may be an increase of power at some point of the rpm band, but other things will not improve, such as mpg. When you modify the exhaust, usually there's minimal benefit unless you also change the intake to match.
I would just leave it alone. It works fine how it is, if you modify it you might gain 10 horsepower and it will sound like a ricer and cost a couple hundred dollars.
