PLC and frequency converter communication cable, is each PLC has a dedicated communication cable, or has a universal cable?

Answer:

The communication interface standards are different. Some are RS232, some are RS485, and the other is RS422,. And even standard, the definition of the communication interface pins can not be the same. Therefore, different PLC and frequency converter cables can not communicate with each other.
Mostly on the PLC side, and some PLC uses the DB9 interface, like SIEMENS. Some use the round 8 pin, like MITSUBISHI. Others can be directly connected to the two lines.
Generally speaking, there is no general purpose. Most of the inverters do use RS485's communication interface, and you can connect them with two wires.
