Question:

Rented an apartment realized there are no fire alarms? legal?

i just rented a small 1 bedroom apartment on the second floor of an older building, only one apartment below me. i just realized there are no smoke alarms at all and no fire extinguisher which all my other apartments have come with. is this legal? can i request that by law they must put a few in? and buy a fire extinguisher?I live in Pittsburgh PA

Answer:

Soelectricity off? Ummmmmmmmdon't answer the door? Sneak out the back. Grab a HUGE kitchen knife on the way out. Bolt for my car. Try not to run him down with the car. After all he might be just some guy who's car broke down near my house. AND whatever I do, I'm NOT going to run back into the house. I hate it when the girls in slasher flicks run back INTO the house. Which is why I avoid slasher flicks and go for supernatural thrillers. I find I yell at the tv less that way. NO, don't go back into the house!!! Stupid!
Take Corey's advice to heart and at the very least invest in a CO (Carbon Monoxide) detector. That is a 45 year old unit and it would be nothing short of remarkable that the heat-exchanger is still intact. Take the old thermocouple out - it should be connected to a threaded fitting on your gas-valve - and take it to your plumbing supply. They will be able to give you an identical unit for replacement.
1964? Do you think maybe its time to update?
