Hi! I bought a Samsung Smart TV and would like to be able to change the channels with the Samsung Remote Control. My TV provider is Comcast/XFinity. I don't have a clue on how to make that the Samsung remote controls the cable box. Please help, thanks.
I know this is 5 moths late, but the samsung can control any provider. you just have to go through the setup and put the IR repeater on the cable box.
I just did that - configured my samsung remote to control xfinity box- it is in the manual of samsung tv, i guess it might be different per model. My model is h6400. You need a infrared extender that you connect to a slot on the back of your tv. That extender then is placed in front of the xfinity box. Then i just followed the on screen configuration steps from the settings on tv. It asked me to enter zip code and then i had choose what comcast area i am in. I did not know exactly as there were 3, so i just chose one on top. Not all functions work, i can swich channels, but i cant get guide. I will experiment with it later The extender came in the box with tv, it's a small round thingie with a long cable attached. I inserted it into IR out on the back of the tv.
You have that backwards. While it *may* be possible to do what you want, don't count on it. The normal process is to control the TV with the cable remote, not vice versa. Find the instructions for your Xfinity receiver or DVR (on the Comcast website if you don't have it) and look up the procedure for programming your Comcast remote to your Samsung TV. You should find two methods: a manual method using a code number, and an automatic method that doesn't require a code. Try the automatic way first; that should work on a new Samsung.
