Question:

Short ram air intake?

I just installed a short ram air intake on my Honda Civic yr 2000 today, but it sounds the same compare to my stock air intake when I hit on the gas pedal. Should that be normal? I bought the kit from ebay, and wonder if I use different air filter will make a difference?

Answer:

In my experience 10 bolts are not that durable.Alright for road and snow some light mud but I've seen a lot of them blown in mud runs.
You don't specify front or rear. If it is the front. i'd just upgrade to a Dana 44. You can get one from a junkyard out of any chevy truck or blazer. Complete easy bolt in stronger than a 10 bolt. (cheaper than rebuilding yours also). If you are talking rear, just get a 14 bolt SF or FF. You will never break it. (unless you are running 44 boggers beating the hell out of it)
You just wasted money. There is no power gain or anything noticeable suppose to happened. The only thing you get is a filter that you can clean and reuse. And, you waste more gas on highway driving. Oh yeah, you car sounds louder in high rev., live over 4k rpm. But, you probably experience power lose when you car heats up because it takes air from the engine compartment which is not cold air. In theory, you would need to get cold air into the engine to get power gain because cold air is denser which would allow more complete combustion. However, your MAF (mass air flow) sensor would compensate for the fuel mixture with the temperature of intake air. In reality, with whatever you do to intake air and filter there is no effect because MAF sensor would compensate for the type of incoming air. And, feedback of the O2 sensor which confirms MAF sensor's working through car CPU. Otherwise, you get an engine light that will goes on and you would have to spend more to fix that too. if you want power, get a turbo. Even modifying exhaust system is a waste of money, like CAT back, tornado or twister, magnet, eBay mod chip(a resistor), etc.
dont listen to that other guy, some intakes and exhaust systems do actually increase hp and make ur car sound badass!, turbo or supercharger would really increase ur hp also, u could use an AEM air intake instead of OKorder which is crap.
