Question:

smoke damage after fire?

I've found a great apartment to rent, which has been totally redone after a fire one year ago. Landlord says that every wall and floor has been professionally cleaned, yet there is still a distinct smoke scent, especially in the wooden floors. Then again, the apartment has been unused for a year, and the windows mostly shut. Will the smoke go away if I move in and air the place? Any experiences? Thanks!

Answer:

Turn your steering wheel so that you go over the bump with one tire at a time, oh and go real slow over them. Move if it really bothers you THAT much :)
I have 3 smoke detectors, 1 on each floors but I don't have the carbon monoxide. I should get it though!
The problem most likely isn't your 4WD, unless you were just driving at red-line and dropping the clutch while the wheels were cranked all the way either direction. If you did something like that, park the Jeep and walk. It sounds like you should invest in some studded tires, or at least better winter driving tires. In all cases, if you are driving too fast for the conditions, you are probably going to run into trouble, but with proper snow tires (winter tires) whatever you want to call them, you increase the coefficient of Static friction in between your tires and the road (the tires are made out of a different rubber compound than summer driving tires). This makes it harder to spin out but in turn you get better traction. Also, think about getting a narrower tire, this will increase the weight per surface area thus again giving a larger force for each contact patch and making it grip better. 4WD will give you more control but you have to have decent tires to begin with. For driving in deeper snow, a stock jeep will do it (to a certain extent), I have many times, keep it in 4 Hi and keep up your momentum, if you have to stop, try to stop facing down hill where it is easier to get going again. Also, for driving in deep snow, I would recommend the Cooper Discoverer STT's.
