Question:

snowchains vs. no chains?

when i lived in Cali i know when going through places like Donner Summit through the mountains of the Sierra Nevadas you had to use snow chains to get through the snow on the highway if the pass was open. My friend who lived in Reno, Nevada said that his parents would use chain style products for their tires for driving in the snow around town. I moved here to MN a year ago now and have spent 2 winters here in LOTS of snow. We dont use chains here at all. Is there a reason for this? What is the purpose of chains? Why are they used in other places and not here?

Answer:

Very very good try. But why a hydrant? And a kid?
The sound is coming from that side most likely because that is the side you are sitting on. Knocking noises on a car can travel. Perhaps there is a problem with one of the pieces of the clutch assembly. Were all the components of the clutch replaced? Clutch disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing? It could be a defective pressure plate in the clutch housing. Did you check the front end at home on a jack? When the weight of the vehicle is now properly supported it is impossible to check for front end problems. You may also have a problem with a ball joint or A frame bushing. Take it to a automotive professional.
