In almost every case (and required if the system is installed per the National Fire Protection Association), there's some type of mechanism that alarms if a fire sprinkler goes off. As soon as the sprinkler activates, water starts flowing in the piping system. As soon as water starts flowing, an alarm and signal will activate to let the appropriate people know.
