Question:

Transmission fluid where the brake fluid goes????

About a month ago I put transmission fluid where the brake fluid goes and now my brakes are bad I am not sure if it is just the brakes or is it because of the transmission fluid. When I got home I noticed what had happened and used a medicine dropper and got what was on top off, will the transmission fluid float? Is it bad and what should I do about it?

Answer:

A Make, Model and Year of your bike would be helpful. And area you mostly ride in would also help. And what sort of $ would you like to spend?
Transmission fluid is petroleum based and brake fluid is mineral based. They are not interchangeable!!! You need to take your car to a professional and have every component that contains rubber in your brake system replaced and have the system thoroughly flushed. The rubber seals and hoses in your brake system will turn to mush when they come in contact with petroleum based fluids. When that happens the brake pedal will go to the floor and you will become a crash test dummy.
Transmission Fluid In Brake System
go to a brake shop and have the system pressure flushed it will remove all fluid and contaminates. if you mean your brakes are bad that your pedal is mushy. then its to late. and you might have to start replacing your brake system. but i think you should be OK if you have it flushed. if your meaning low brake lining then take care of that also. im sure that would be just ware and tear. 16 yrs ASE cert. retired
