I would like to learn how to change the transmission fluid on my 1991 grand marquis as well as dropping the pan and cleaning it.what are the steps to doing this? how many quarts will i need and what type? ive never done it before so thanks in advance!
Vermiculite is best for small fine seeds but yes it can be used for any seed but i wouldn't use it for say a sweetpea sized seed. I would stick to using it for small seeds (any) and seed compost for the bigger ones.
I would go to an auto parts store and get a Chilton's or haynes manual for your car. It will have instructions with how to do this properly as well as how to refill it. In general you will need: Large drain pan Socket set Long funnel. Torque wrench Parts needed: Transmission filter Transmission pan gasket. Possibly silicone. Basic procedure. Loosen all the bolts around the transmission, one corner more then others. Pry that corner down so that it can spill the fluid into the pan. The hard part comes next. You may need help. You have to completely undo all the bolts and remove the pan, there will still be fluid in it. Drain all that then change the filter apply the new gasket and bolt it all back up to the proper torque values. Refilling: On level ground you will start by adding 2-4 quarts of transmission fluid, the auto parts store will get you the correct stuff. Then on level ground you start up the car and check the transmission fluid level on the dip stick. Keep adding through the dipstick pipe until it is at the proper level.
its really not that hard.just go to autozone, ask for filter and see how many quaurts it will take to serviceremember your only changing the filter, so the majority of the fluid will remain in the converter.all you do is remove the pan fasteners, drop pan and clean.you will see several magnets inside the pan to catch the misc metal fragmentsjust clean those up and place back in original spotsthe filter is just remove and replaceinstall in reverse orderEASY EASY
