what can I use for the incubator other than vermiculite?
you may want to inqure about a product called vermiculite (sp) it is a very light not very abrasive material used with vinyl lined in ground and above ground pools. Get the area for the pool as level as you can and then install or setup the pool. Leveling the ground is pretty easy, but hard work. Not knowing the lay out of your yard it is kind of hard to really suggest a lot of ideas. But first find the most level spot in your yard. then find the highest point in that area and the lowest point. You can setup wooden stakes and run level masons line to get an idea of the lay of the land. At the highest spot start digging and removing all the high material till you get close to the same plane as the low spot. then using a product such as vermiculite you can further grade to a level surface and then compact the material some and install the pool.
