Question:

What do you know about zinc and copper?

1) What color are each?2) Do they make a chemical compound together?2a) If so, what is the texture of that compound?2b) If so, what is the color of that compound?3) Does a thin strand of copper tend to be curly or straight?4) Does a thin strand of zinc tend to be curly or straight?5) Are they brittle, malleable, or have other textures?6) What do they smell like?7) Where in the world are they most found together?8) Which is heavier?9) How much does 2 oz. of each weigh? You get the point, everything you know about zinc and copper. Thanks for helping! :)

Answer:

what is ch3
1. Zinc is bluish pale gray. Copper is reddish orange....almost coppery colored. 2. Together they make pennies....actually brass is an alloy of the two, which is ummmm (intense concentration here) brass colored. 3. Copper is very ductile, and strands tend to curl rather than break. 4. Zinc tends to be straight because it becomes brittle the more it is beat. 5. Zinc = brittle Copper = malleable 6. Smelling zinc oxide is a poison, so not recommended. Copper smells like pennies prior to 1982. 7. The penny is 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper since 1982. 8. One mole of copper atoms is 63.5g One mole of zinc atoms is 65.4g 9. 2 oz
Pure copper has a - well - coppery color. I believe zinc is a dull grey (it is used as the interior metal of many coins). When combined in an alloy, it's called brass. Depending on how much of each, it can look like a slightly yellowy copper or it can look green. When the metals are drawn into a wire, they should be straight. Curly wire happens when there is a defect in the drawing process. The degree of brittleness or maleability depends on whether it's been annealed or not. Annealing is a process of heating, then rapidly cooling the metal. With copper especially, if there is oxygen present during the heating, the oxygen will combine with the copper just as oxygen combined with iron creates rust. It degrades the metals maleability and electrical conductivity. Copper is somewhat common, currently mined in the Great Lakes area and in the Southwest US as well as other locations throughout the world. I don't know how to describe the smell as my sense of smell isn't too good (don't take up smoking!). As far as your last question, are you joking? Two ounces of each weighs exactly two ounces.
