Question:

What is a Switching Charger?

I just got this switching charger from PowerBase C-421. I can't find anything on the net about this kind of charger. All I found where fast chargers, smart chargers, etc. I just want to know how this charger works. Is it better than the other chargers? Thanks in advance.

Answer:

It's the way the charger or power supply is built. For example, the power supply in your computer is a switching power supply. A switching supply turns the supply voltage on and off, or chops the voltage, to maintain the required output. As the output voltage falls the input is turned back on. As the output voltage climbs the input is turned off. This chopped voltage is then filtered as needed. The end result is a cheaper, lighter power supply or charger.
