Answer:

If it is a uniform that is REQUIRED by your employer, the cost of buying them and cleaning them is deductible on form 2106 as a business expense.
An elastomer is a polymer with elastic (stretchy) properties.
The ONLY clothing that can be deducted is clothing that is required by your job AND is unsuitable for off-duty wear. This would include safety clothing such as hart hats and steel-toed shoes or boots, logoware uniforms that your employer prohibits you from wearing off-the-job and some coveralls such as Carharts. A pair of khakis won't pass the test of being unsuitable for off-duty wear, even if you would not personally be caught dead wearing them. Sorry! Unreimbursed employee business expenses go on Form 2106. The total then flows to Schedule A as a miscellaneous itemized deduction, subject to a 2% AGI floor. Unless you are already itemizing and the deductible expenses were greater than 2% of your AGI you would not get any benefit. Unless your roomie owns the home that you live in it's highly unlikely that she had enough in deductions to make itemizing worthwhile. Most likely she's blowing smoke. Most clothing for a hostess would not pass the unsuitability test anyway, even if it was a French Maid outfit.
