Question:

What kind of Chemicals do i put in my tank?

i have a saltwater tank and i was wondering what kind of chemicals do i put in the tank daily besides calcium

Answer:

Dechlor/water conditioner is the only chemical you should add when water changes. You should not be dosing with calcium daily for your tank. If you are using dolomite or even sand it isn't needed and you are going to end up with a calcium buildup in the tank. If you are trying to grow reef plants etc on your live rock Nanoreef Part A and part b Not always a daily dose. Unless your tank is in need of calcium don't add it daily. Most of the minerals your fish need come from the salts you mix for your water along with the fresh calcium from the water source. Also water changes are not a weekly thing for a salt tank. Water changes when needed only and in an established properly set up tank can go months (provided you have a skimmer) Even iodine should not be added unless needed since it is in the salt source. Once per month is a good schedule for salt tanks for 25% water change. Doing this will replace the minerals, calcium (that is unless you have a number of crabs and no crushed shells already in the tank). Unless you are really experiencing problems no other chemicals are really needed. Again calcium isn't needed every day or they should not be needed.
Eartha Q has it all figured out! The only time I have a fire inside is when I'm sleeping in this one cave I know of (this gets warm really quick!). I have also stayed in a teepee before with a fire, but if you build it out of tarps it will be flammable. For a teepee you would need leather or canvas. Warm stones are great, but they don't stay warm all night. They just help you get to sleep. Bring tons and tons of blankets if you don't have the proper sleeping bags.
You don't have to use Chemicals. Actually, if you do, I bet you'll end up with more problems than anything else. I NEVER use chemicals in my tanks and will never to. There is ways to do without and it's always best. good luck
You can get a 2 part Calcium/Alkalinity set of chemicals, they ussually have all the basics you need. for years I had a 65yr old lady maintaining a 29gal tank and that's all she added every couple days. once every two weeks I would change her filters and do a 15% waterchange and her tank was one of my favorites kept corals nice and healthy, and had lots' of beutiful coraline on all the rocks!
Buy a 2-4-6 or 8 man tent or however big you need and a portable heater certified for indoor use so you can put it in the tent with you. Also get sleeping bags. This will keep you as snug as a bug in a rug
