Tomatoes, most herbs (cilantro, basil, oregano, rosemary), bell peppers and most kinds of scorching peppers will also be grown in pots- either begin from seeds or buy small plants. I've grown all those in pots myself plus i have began carrots and radishes from seed in deeper pots. You could even sow a little bit unfastened leaf lettuce or mescalun combine in just right sized pots for salad. You do not want a fancy pot. I've seen someone grow tomatoes through making a hole within the top of a bag of potting soil and sticking a tomato plant into the bag. Pots can dry put swiftly so you are going to have got to water as a rule -by and large day-to-day when it's sizzling. Higher pots keep moist longer. Sun for simplest part of the day is okay for many greens- you just get a little less yield. When you on no account have sun on the patio, you then would have to provide then some solar in other places or use a grow lamp. We have now grown all many of these on a sunny windowsill too, mainly the herbs. Good luck.

Almost anything if you have the right soil. Use equal amounts of peat moss, coarse vermiculite, and compost (your own or a blend of 5 or more types of store bought compost). Reuse the soil and just mix in more compost for each planting--the soil lasts forever as long as you add more compost for each crop! Beans, tomatoes, squash, and melons are all possible if you use some kind of support and grow them vertically. Check out Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew for some good ideas on the subject.
