Gas or electric heating unit? If gas-fired, it may not be lighting, but the heating unit should have a flame detector, so the blower should not run (while in auto). If it has an electric element, one or more of the elements could be bad (can check this with a resistance test, if the circuit is open then it/they are bad, if there is a low resistance across the heating element it is good). To answer this question, we will need more information of the type of unit that you have. Your best bet will be to call in an HVAC Tech, unless your fairly skilled at the operation of these devices.
