Question:

what one emo or metal?

what one emo or metal?

Answer:

Tell your friend to put it all in a historical frame. If there wasn't for Van Halen, Purple, Priest, etc, Slipknot, Korn, etc, wouldn't even exist, and that's sure as hell
Come on you forget who else lay edthe foundation of Heavy Metal. If it wasn't for Black Sabbath the Heavy Metal would not existed! Tony Iommi created the sound for Sabbath. Of course with Led Zeppelin would rank for high as the foundation. But don't forget groups like Mot?rhead, Judas Priest, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and Deep Purple. These people set the tone and standards of the Heavy Metal Revolution. Sure groups like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, and early 80's Metal Bands brought different types Metal to the front the music industry. But that is what makes Metal Great. It mixes the Godfathers with the new genres. Whatevere your taste, Metal has got it for you.
Older metal bands such as Overkill are way better than new metal, for me new metal was what i first heard to get into the genre, from hearing it on TV or at a friends house, then when i started to look more into the different bands i found new metal to be very annoying and crappy. I don't mind SOME newer bands though.
First off, that kid doesn't know what the good metal bands are during this decade. He desperately needs to look up the bands Firewind, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Nevermore, Arsis, and Kataklysm. Those bands have some serious talent!!! Slipknot and Korn are mainstream garbage and aren't my cup of tea. Secondiley, I don't really consider bands like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Van Halen as metal bands. They have more of an influence on today's modern rock. Therefore, those bands that you listed are considered classic rock in my opinion. The older style metal bands would be bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Obituary, Death, and Slayer. You get the picture. While I do like some of the older metal bands. I am actually more fond of today's crop. I mean, today you have a good selection of Melodic Death Metal and Power Metal bands. Those are two great genres of metal. It is just my opinion, but if you are looking for a more diverse taste in metal, then today's metal scene is a better fit for you. Also, let me say that there are many great bands that hail from European countries nowadays. American metal isn't as strong as it was before. Countries such as Finland, Sweden, German, England, and Norway have dominated the globe with its metal music from the past 15 years. That is where the good music is at these days. Oh and let me name off my favorite metal bands to you again, in case you are interested in what I think sounds like good metal these days... Firewind Eternal Tears of Sorrow Eluveitie Isis Nevermore Amorphis Kataklysm Opeth Arsis Dark Tranquillity In Flames Sabaton
Well, I tend to be a more of a fan of new metal.....BUT, there is no way I'd side with your friend if he is naming Korn and Slipknot as examples....I'll give you some better examples.... Pantera (well they aren't 'new') Soilwork Scar Symmetry Threat Signal Nightrage Hatebreed Lamb of God Throwdown Godsmack The Haunted Machinemade God Bloodsimple Disarmonia Mundi Miseration I totally understand why you would say old metal, also...but I tend to only listen to newer stuff from 90's on.....its just my taste, though I appreciate many of the older metal bands....I enjoy newer bands..... But, there are many crappy new metal bands around so I am not saying new metal as a whole is better....I am saying I enjoy the bands I listen to...most of which aren't wicked well-known or mainstream and that are very talented and actually produce great metal music unlike what some ppl call newer metal (such as Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Slipknot, etc...which is crap compared to the bands I listen to) I hope you see where I am coming from.....I just prefer metal bands from the 90's on..... :)
