Question:

What's a &lightning rod&?

I was talking to this jerk online, and I said I didn't want to date someone who felt the way he did about an important issue. He said I didn't realize you were such a lightning rod. What does that mean?

Answer:

Speed bumps on a dirt road, really, never heard of that before!
If it is rubber like, bluish grey? I would guess you live in a manufactured home. Those pipes are assembled using a special crimping tool, rings and fittings. You may be able to find a compression type fitting to make a repair. What I suggest is that you take a photo of the pipe and go to a home store and ask for advice there. But if it broke in the wall that pipe could be bad and you likely need to do more than just fix it. But you can make a temporary repair. I recall a number of years back they had a huge recall on that type of pipe and manufacturers of the homes had to entirely re-plumb many of them. Good luck.
Just take turns to lie across the road. Tell people you dont like to take first shift.
No you can not put speed bumps on the road yourself as it is public property. However you can go to your city council or mayor and petition for the speed bumps. If they see the need for it they will agree to put them in. They may want you to pay for them or part of the cost at least. But you can not put anything like that on public property without the cities or county if you live in the county, property.
First off, you should talk to your council and ask exactly what the road is classed as. Lots of private roads were put in by the council, so they own them. If this is the case, get signatures of everyone in the street and put it to council. They may put the speed humps in for free, or you may need to pay for them If it is a private road that you and the other 19 residents paid for to be put in, then you shouldnt have too many problems. I would get a lawyer to draw up papers for all the residents to sign, agreeing for everyone to pay 1/20th the cost of the bill. As long as everyone wants them, it should be plain sailing. You may be required by law to put up signs saying speedbump ahead, as well as signs stating that it is a private access road as well.
