Answer:

About the only suggestion I can make is to try cleaning the photocell that is the actual detector used to see smoke. When they get a little dirty they can trip the alarm. If that doesn't work you may need to look into having an electrician change it out. If there is a way to deactivate it and replace it with the battery-operated type that might be a good option for you. You wouldn't even have to remove it, if you could just turn it off.
Safety equipment is explicitly allowed as a deduction if it's required on the job. Any other clothing items must either be unsuitable for off-the-job wear or PROHIBITED by the employer for off-the-job wear. Steel-toed safety boots, Carharts, hard hats: Deductible Logo wear that your employer prohibits off-the-job wear of: Deductible Logo wear that you employer allows you to wear off-the-job: Not deductible. Military uniforms: Not deductible UNLESS it's a utility uniform (BDU, ABU, flightsuit, or fatigues) and you are in the Air Force. (The other services allow unrestricted wear of utility uniforms so they cannot deduct them.) Surgical scrubs: Deductible if your employer prohibits off-the-job wear. (This one will often slide under the IRS radar though.) Police uniforms: Not deductible. Fire uniforms: Only safety type uniforms are deductible. The dress and ceremonial uniforms are not deductible.
footwear that you wear ONLY to your work is tax deductible.
