The picture quality is essentially the same between the two. Plasma's can have burn in, are more expensive usually, but are thin and light. The most important thing to remember is that plasmas aren't easy to fix and there aren't many people around who can fix them. You're probably going to buy a new tv in 5years if you go plasma. LCD and DLP tv's are both good. Be sure to pay attention to the contrast ratio (ask the sales guy to point it out). The best I know of is 10,000 to 1 which gives you an awesome picture regardless of what tv. Normally I think all these types are around 3000 to 1 (major difference). Also, get one from an established brand like sony/toshiba/hitachi. One more thing, don't buy a kickass high def plasma/LCD/DLP and then go cheap on your component hookup. Look for something called Monster cables but make sure your DVD/VCR or whatever has component video/audio hookups (there should be three holes-red,blue,green on the back). These cables can handle more information from your tv which is neccessary to get a good picture.
