Question:

When to start blanketing a pasture horse in northern california?

My horse is a thoroughbred so she doesn't get a ton of hair and we just moved up to norcal from socal so it's chillier hereIt's already getting down to like 45 at night and she's out in pasture all night with a small roof but no wind shelter at allI have a medium blanket and a waterproof outer blanketWhen should I start blanketing? She's just getting fuzzy right now.

Answer:

You can remove them by using acetone, but it takes a whole lot of soaking! A professional usually does the same thing, and if they have a problem, they cut/rip them off and it hurts! It'll probably be easier to do it yourselfTry the acetoneIt does work, even if it takes a whileGood luck!
I just read an article about this in horse illustratedIt said we think horses are uncomfortable at temperatures that we think are uncomfortableMost horses are ok until the temperature gets down to zeroYou'll see horses with shelters standing out in a snowy field with their butts to the wind not even using the shelterGo figureIt did say that horses with thin coats could use a blanket if it gets REALLY coldIt said we over blanket in this country and most horses don't need blankets.
