Just have rotors and pads replaced in Feb and my brakes are grinding and I‘ve only put 11500 miles on the car since Feb. I have driven the same that I have always driven except took trip to GA which is all highway so no stop and go. My last set of brakes lasted alittle more than a year. Im taking it tomorrow to the same place that fixed it. I feel as if they should repair it for free. It also just passed inspection last week.
Yes they do get better gas mileage. It takes hp to get the car in motion, the heavier the car the more hp. The more hp, the more fuel is consumed. As far as the lift part, yes, but only in theory. The handling and wind direction would cause this to not be very efficient. If you removed all the variables then yes it would work. Its not possible to eliminate the variables in a real world test so its better to just add drag and keep it planted to the road!!
Um, no, there is a thing called lift-induced drag, which means you will put more energy into generating the lift than could ever be saved because of it. Not to mention that is gravitational weight you are talking about, it still takes as much energy to change the car's speed [Plus now you'll have less traction] Also, this is speed-dependent, so you have no bonus to acceleration. Certainly more aerodynamic cars or cars built with plastic bodies / aluminum frames go a lot better, though they kinda lack the weight capacity of heavier frames.
You might be riding your brakes a lot which wears them out faster. Also, it depends on what type of brake pads you have. Soft brake pads will wear out significantly faster than hard brake pads. The chances of you getting it replaced for free are slim to none.
My dad had a very similar problem. The highways in Georgia are generally the most unlikely places for cars to break down, but it happens to him every time we drive through Georgia. The people at the BMW place do charge a lot, but it happens. The good thing is that your car will probably last a very long time in the long run. My dad has 125,000 miles on his BMW, and the people at the BMW dealership say that the car is only a baby.
11500 is very odd. Unless you are riding the brakes or there is a problem with the brake system, they shouldn't have worn out that soon. Original BMW brakes are made of very soft compounds and do wear rather fast. They make them out of these softer materials because it makes the cars stop so well.
