Question:

Brake light on dashboard blinks on & off .?

I have a 98 dodge stratus engine 2.4. 4 cycinder. What does this mean? Do I need brake fluid? New brake?

Answer:

check the fluid level in the master cylinder. after that, get the brakes looked at.
A blinking brake light usually indicates that the parking/emergency brake has not been fully disengaged.
Since the brake system is sealed Low fluid is an indicator for worn brake pads. Car brake pads have a metal tab when that tab contacts the rotor it completes the circuit and turns the dash light on. This is to warn you that the pad is worn out and needs to be replaced. Since its a sealed system brake fluid can't leak out otherwise your pedal would hit the floor and you will not stop. You should never have to top up the brake fluid On older cars the level of the fluid indicated the wear on the pads This is true for new vehicles There are no indicator lights for low brake fluid. If you top up the brake fluid when you compress the caliper back the fluid in the reservoir will return to its normal level so if you add fluid You will have to drain off that extra fluid prior to replacing the pads otherwise it will overflow and make a mess hope it helps Lr
