Question:

Can I put my frying pan in the oven?

I just want to broil something for a minute or two, and I have 2 kinds of frying pansA teflon pan which I like because it's easier to use and a metal one, which is probably cast iron or somethingIs it safe to put a teflon pan in the broiler for a few minutes, or should I use the other one? I really dislike the other one because food sticks a lot.

Answer:

Teflon-coated pans really shouldn't be used under the broiler as the intense heat can affect the coating and its bond to the panIf you have problems with food sticking to your other pan when used under the broiler it's probably because there's not enough oil in itEven though you're broiling your food, you still should have just a little bit of oil in the pan to prevent stickingIf you're trying to avoid using oil altogether, get yourself some parchment paper, which you can find in the supermarket near the wax paper and aluminum foilParchment paper is infused with food-safe silicone, so it will not burn in a high-heat environment such as an oven or under a broilerSimply put a piece of parchment in your pan (or on a cookie sheet or pizza pan), put your food on top and off you go - no oil needed, no sticking guaranteedBon appetit!
