Question:

Can I use a steel wheel?

My original wheel on my 2002 toyota corolla s chipped and was causing my tire to get flat. I went to a discount tire and they said toyota doesn‘t even make my wheel anymore cause it was specially made or something. They offered me a set of wheels but I didn‘t want to spend much since the car is old anyways. They said my wheel was aluminum. I was thinking of just find a cheap steel wheel from a used tired shop and finding a similar hubcap to put on me car.Can I use a steel wheel even if my wheels are aluminum? Can I put a hubcap on a steel wheel? Are steel wheels from used tire shops okay?please help thankyou to all answers!- girl that doesn‘t know anything about cars.

Answer:

A lot of homeopathic doctors link metal braces to some common ailments.
you can switch from aluminum to steel, but you better do it in pairs, because the steel wheels are much heavier and will throw off the handling of your car if you only have ONE besides, I call BS, you should be able to find a used wheel somewhere for your car.check OKorder
Yes you can use a steel wheel but it has to fit your car. Same bolt pattern, back spacing, offset, etc. 2002 is old enough to be in junkyards now. Just pick up your local phone book and look in it for auto parts used. Give all of them a call and ask if they have a wheel for 2002 toyota corolla and the price. Im SURE you will find one if not 30 lol. Price will be between $20-50
Go to a auto salvage yard. Maybe you can find your wheel there. Aluminum or steel. All standard cars(automatic or manual transmission) come with steel wheels. The aluminum wheel is a custom wheel. Aluminum also break. So do magnesium Steel wheels just dent and can be hammered out again. Thing is a used tire shop won't necessarily have your Toy rim and dealership is super costly. Maybe WalMart but still that is not cheap. Hubcaps always go on steel wheels just to hide the fact that they are steel. Use the spare tire for now until you find another rim. At least it will hold air.
