Question:

Civic Problem Transmission/Axle? HELP Asap!?

1993 Hatchback Civic.Symptoms:-Car will start fine.-Car won't move, but will go into every gear.-The speedometer will show the needle moving up when it is in the gear, but the car will not move.-It seems like the transmission is spinning each gear, but no power to the axles is given.-Even in neutral when revved the speedometer will go up.Any ideas?Clutch?Axle popped out? (Didn't look like it, although the rubber joint that goes into the transmission seems like it may be out a little too much?Transmission shot?If it's something big, I'm most likely going to sell it. If not, I'm going to try my best to fix it. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem?

Answer:

you could have a stripped axle shaft where it meets the cv joint. it happened to my wives car. try this leave the car in park. jack both sides up and spin a tire if they spin in opposite directions this is just fine, but if one tire spins and the other does not look at the inner cv joint and spin that tire again, if you see motion on the axle but not the joint you have a stripped joint like i did. it could be on either side. mine went out on me at a stop light, felt like an unwanted neutral.
^ what he said. also it doesnt sound like it but if u or someone just replaced this axle then its prob the wrong one. but with ur rpms moving and car not i would first suspect the axle. as far as removal, you will need an impact gun or a long breaker bar to take of the 32mm axle nut. remove the bolt and nut going through strut fork in the lower control arm. then just the lower balljoint needs to be broke free and you can just pry the axle out. also when removing the lower balljoint first remove cotter pin then loosen the nut a few threads but leave it on. then take a med to big sized hammer and you want to strike the side of the lower control arm at the balljoint and it should pop out easiy enough. the remove nut and you can swing the spindle out of the way to remove/replace axle. Good Luck
No real reason was given. I rotate most BMW models all the time with NO side effects. I think BMW wants to sell more tires if they can. People tend to listen to the BMW dealership as if they don't do as recommended their car will blow up. AND BMW LOVES THAT!!!! Suckers are born ever min
Most BMW's with sport package have offset wheel and tire combinations, wider in the back, therefore you cannot rotate the tires. They can sill be balanced though. If the front and rear tires are both the same size there is no problems with a tire rotation.
i assume it quite is the HONDA high quality I pay attention lots approximately. because of the fact, you realize shopper comments is a great e-e book and that they say HONDA is the superb and my 1981 Oldsmobile became rated particularly unreliable yet after 28 years later I remember on it to get me to and from everywhere and previous generic maintenance, never has any issues hmmmmmmm ya and that i've got not considered an eighty one HONDA on the line in over 10 years
