Question:

Electrical wiring baseboard heat and digital thermostat?

I am trying to wire up a digital thermostat. It has two black wires coming from the back of it, top and bottom. The wires coming from the wall are two wires and each have one black and one white for a total of two white wires and two black wires. How do I wire this thermostat up?Do I wire both whites to the top thermostat wire and both blacks to the bottom?I already tried both blacks to the top and both whites to the bottom and blew the damn thermostat up lol. This is to control two baseboard electrical heaters.

Answer:

Assuming your using a 120V/240V thermo and heater, Wire nut the whites together and then hook up one from the wall to the thermo and then the others. You may need to find line and load. Line from panel Load to heater
I am so impressed with the two answers from electrician that I must comment. Most of your buddies and a bunch of namby pambies, advise folks to get a professional electrician or plumber or whatever the trade might be. You are to be congratulated for your straight forward advice and help to the home handy-man do it yourself-er without belittling and admonishing him. Thanks By the way I have made a couple of sparks fly and am here to tell about it
1 black to top and one black to the bottom and all the whites together.
