I’m currently doing some research so I hope you guys can really help me out here.Mercedes Benz has a two system (i think) for their braking lights, one is that they it will be ON (as what we normally see) when normal braking is applied (slowing down or stopping) and two (which is their newest system) is that they will FLASH (I think for the 3rd brake light) when emergency braking is applied. How do they do that? Do they work with the speed sensors or pressure applied to the brake pedal or what? How is it done?
In case the driver heavily pushes the brake pedal, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) automatically activates the Adaptive Brake Light system. As a result, the brake lights are now flashing at a frequency of 3 Hz instead of keeping the same intensity as long as the driver presses the pedal. This makes the car easier noticeable and informs the following drivers of a potential hazard ahead. Once the driver releases the brake pedal, the ESP automatically turns off the function and the flash lights work just as normal.
