Question:

How to transfer data through an ethernet cable?

I have a laptop that is an '02 model (I think) but it is running Windows xp SP-3 just like my desktop. I have a crossover ethernet cable (it's black and it isn't the normal size; it's the smaller size heads). Anyways, I was wondering how I could transfer a file (well more like a program) through the cable because I don't have anything big enough to hold 3GB of stuff. Also, is there a way to connect to the internet through this cable? Oh and don't say Get a wireless router because I have one.

Answer:

Are you sure you have a crossover Ethernet cable? Check to make sure its not a phone cable. Attach one end of it to your desktop, and the other end to your laptop. You can use Windows Easy Transfer, or just transfer the files using Network. Make the files you want to transfer Public so that the other PC can see it, then start transferring. If it really is a crossover Ethernet cable, just plug it into the wireless router, and the other end to the PC you want connected to the internet.
Does your laptop have either a connection for a CAT5 cable or wireless on it? If not you're screwed. If so I can help you.
