I'm installing a new bathtub, can I attach the tub to the cement board?

Answer:

Yes, they did this on Blue Peter last year from velcro, a washing-up liquid bottle, and some sticky-backed plastic - remember when you're using the scissors to ask an adult to help!
Not directly. Use silicone to seal the bath flanges to the cement board
In almost all cases, no you should not attach your tub to the cement board. The majority of tubs that are made of steel, plastic, fiberglass, Americast.... will have a flange that you will fasten through into the wall studs. The cement board will then be fastened over the flange onto the studs. If your bathtub is made of cast iron a board should be attached to the studs on to which the tub will rest. The cement board will then set on top of the tub flange. Good Luck Jimbo
