Question:

Is it safe to dry out vermiculite (Perlite) in a oven and if so at what temperature.?

I have some wet Perlite that I would like to dry out to store. I would like to know if it is safe to dry out in my kitchen oven. Or will it create toxic fumes?

Answer:

O.k., this officially the best question I've seen in Y!a in quite a while! So, my official answer is, probably. Or maybe. But, there is enough doubt to never use it. There are more than enough alternatives. This also goes for things like polyvinyl chloride(PVC). Its not legal in the U.S. To use for applications that raise the temps over 70° I think, because of offgassing. CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride), is a much safer option. For eggs, make your mixture from perlite, or just purchase HatchRite. Do a search.
Vermiculite is not a carcinogen. In the past, it was often mixed with asbestos, which was a problem.
The smoke (like all and all smoke that's inhaled) can surely include cancer causing agents. Fortunately THC has anti-tumor homes! To hinder cancer causing agents in marijuana it's first-class to make use of a water pipe (bong) and even higher, a vaporizer.
