Question:

Is it safe to replace axle nuts with threaded pegs?

if installing pegs that have threads onto the axle, can the peg serve as the nut in cases where there is insufficient axle length to place the nut in the peg as well?if not, where can I find long 3/8 axles, I‘d estimate I need at least 200mm

Answer:

The reason your bike doesn't have longer axles is because it cannot have pegs installed- there may be something with the wheel or frame design (outside of axle length) that stops it from doing so. That being said, NO, you can NOT replace your axle nuts with threaded pegs. Longer axles are available at any bike shop.
the main reason you cant is because the axle nuts have locking grooves cut into the backs and are a different type of steel. the pegs are flat and are most of the time chrome plated so a small bump can through the rear end out of line
