Question:

IS there head gasket paper?

I have a dirtbike and a weedwacker that need a new head gasket, the gaskets cost like $20 a piece and shipping. Is there like a sheet of head gasket paper that i could use an exacto knife and trace it out??please put a link or store location

Answer:

my guess is that you have a lot of free time. you need to get the proper gaskets. you can not make the compression rings ( the reinforced section of the head gasket) if you use paper, or any thing like it, you are doomed for failure. you could try a sheet of copper if you feel like you have that much time bit that would be just as expensive as the right gaskets.
The problem is both of them should have a metal ring around the bore hole. I doubt just paper will hold up very long.
No! Head gasket material is not paper,- It s is a heavy composite - some using copper sheet to hold together!! However you should be able to go to small engine shop, especially with old gasket in hand and buy a new one there for a little less! If the gasket is not too badly torn up there is a product available in auto supply stores that can be used to paint gaskets with a good amount of success! Copppercote is one, at least if it does not work it is not as bad as pulling head off a car to do over again! And of course it pays to avoid pulling heads off engines, unless there is no other recourse!
