Question:

k&n cold air intakes? Do they improve gas mileage?

kn cold air intakes? Do they also improve gas mileage significantly? Or are they merely a performance add-on to boost horsepower?Same question about bolting on headers on my pickup truck. Will headers improve gas mileage or will it be just a performance boost?

Answer:

try some rust remover it can be found at a local hardware store like homedepot
CLR should help. (calcium lime rust) remover.
No it should get you the same gas mileage as a regular air intake the only thing that is differant is the cold air intake makes the fuel molicules closer together and fires harder. it add extra horsepower so if your looking for better gas mileage then cold air intake probably isn't the thing but if your looking for more hp then its the way to go.
Yes, they improve gas mileage but no, not significantly. It's the same thing with headers. Think of the engine as a giant pump, it sucks in air and spits out exhaust. The more efficiently that the pump ( engine ) can do these two things, the easier it is for it to do its job ( which equals less fuel used ). By placing a more free-flowing intake and exhaust, you are doing just that.
Both come with Lot's more noise. Headers improve exhaust flow KN intake improves air flow into the motor. More flow more noise how can you resist pushing the throttles open. Pick Up trucks are about as areodynamic as a brick so keeping the speed down tires inflated is the best way to get fuel milage. I have exhaust and intake on my 6.0 liter GM small block and noticed no decreese in fuel milage but I notice the 30 hp after Computer modifications and Dyno tuning. ANSWER no performance parts are for performance not gas milage keep it stock
