Question:

Miss-hit long irons?

I continually hit my long irons and 3-hybrid fat or thin. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Answer:

the same thing used to always happen to me, id either hit it thin and right or left. it was mostly from lifting my head from trying to swing too hard, or from sliding my hips instead of rotating which causes too much wrist action and a hook
The tendency with the longer clubs is to swing harder and faster which gets you off balance causing fat and thin shots. Instead of trying to rip the long irons, think about a nice slow smooth swing and you will have more squarely struck shots.
Lessons are the best solution however for a few long iron tips that have really helped me out is one not to overswing, that will throw you all out of wack. However one thing that has been the most helpful to me is that you have to swing your long irons more around your body on a shallower plane than your short irons. If you are tring to hit a 3 iron on the same plane as a pitching wedge you will have problems all day. Stand a little farther away from the ball with your hands a little more away from your body, this will help to induce a more rounded swing around your body instead of a steep swing that will terrorize you with your long irons.
