Question:

Should I put a fire/smoke alarm in our daughters room?

Okay so I am replacing our ancient fire alarm and replacing it with a new alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm. I am placing the alarms in the hallway (outside of the bedrooms) Should I place another set of alarms in the babys room? The alarm will only be about 5 feet if that from her bedroom door?Is that close enough Or should I just purchase another fire alarm to put in her room?

Answer:

The fire truck pumped water volume will depend on the number, length and sizes of the hoses attached and also on the capability of any hydrant system being utilized. Pumpers commonly have punping capacities to 1000 GPM with an onboard 500 gallon tank which won't last long with even a single 2 1/2 hose, but it will get you started and will be adequate for the majority of smaller fire runs utilizing the smaller hoses. Some pumpers are larger, but an adequate water supply is essential. Most tankers have capacities from 1000 gallons, many are 1500 gallon and some are larger. The smaller 4WD brush trucks will have a one inch hose and pumping capacity of around 40 GPM with a 200 gallon tank. In rural areas where there is no suitable hydrant system a drop-tank and shutle relay system can be set up using a number of tankers equipped with high capacity dump valves to fill the portable tank set on the ground at the pumper. Water can be drawn - in by support pumpers from rural ponds, lakes, rivers, swmming pools or remote hydrants to fill the tankers. Adjacent rural departments can have mutual assistance agreements.
15-30 gallons per minute for a 1 hose and 30-60 gallons per minute for a 1.5 hose. However, the flow rate is normally controlled by a firefighter on the engine control panel

Nastywat is right, most smoke detectors have a battery back up, even the hard wired ones, and will chirp at you when the battery is low.
