I came across some tire‘s today and the size on the tire reads 220/55/390 what kind of tire size is this and what type of vehicle do they go on?
Seems like a fat tyre to fit a 15inch rim. Will go on almost any 15 inch rim for most cars depending on clearance between the insides of the wheel arches.
I believe these are the old Michelin TRX tires that fit mid-80's Ford Mustang GT's and a few BMW's - the 635i if I recall correctly. It was an experiment in pure metric sizing that Michelin hoped the rest of the industry would follow. They didn't. Michelin still rolls batches of the old TRX off the line every few years which are sold through Coker Tire for a very hefty fee. But since nothing else fits those rims.
that tire size is the old metric size tire Michelin made for a very few selected sports cars in the mid 80's from ford mustangs to BMW. The 390 mm wheel will only fit a 390 mm tire that why a majority of people converted over to 14 inch wheel to fit their vehicle because the price and availability of the 390' s is expensive and few unlike the 14 inch tire which is a dime a dozen.
